P.H. Benjamin Chang, Advisor
Mr. Chang brings a unique blend of executive, operational, and board level expertise. Ben has over 20 years of investment banking and private equity investment experience. Over his career, he has completed over 50 transactions aggregating nearly $1 billion in value. Ben’s investments and transactions have been in conjunction with such firms as Advent International, TA Associates, Essex Woodland Health Ventures, and BancBoston Ventures, to name a few.
Currently, Ben is the Founder and Managing Principal of Wellfleet Capital Partners, Inc., a private merchant bank founded in 1995 for the express purpose of acquiring and advising businesses under $100 million in enterprise value. Ben seeks out management teams and companies that can measurably benefit from outside management expertise and capital. Ben has served on the Board of Directors for Microchem Corp., Summit Service Group, Inc., Fabreeka International, Inc., Perrone Group and Buyrite Designs, Inc.
Since its inception, Wellfleet has completed eight investments representing over $300 million in market value. Two notable recent investment exits were the successful sale of MicroChem Corp to Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. and the sale of Summit Services Group.
Ben was a senior healthcare investment banker at Advest, Inc, a major northeastern regional investment banking firm. While at Advest, among many other transactions, Ben played an important role with American Medical Response, Inc. in its founding, its Initial Public Offering, and its first secondary public stock issuance (the company of which Mr. McGrath was a Co-Founder and Director that grew into the world's largest ambulance service firm). Ben also worked on numerous other initial public offerings, secondary stock offerings, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, and he also provided professional services such as valuation opinions. He worked in a variety of industries, including business services, consumer products, healthcare, and niche manufacturers and distributors. Prior to his work at Advest, Ben was with the investment banking firms Ferris, Baker Watts and also Security Pacific Merchant Bank.
Ben received his B.A. from Tufts University and and an M.B.A. from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Ben's personal interests include enjoys competitive tennis, restaurant sampling (particularly sushi, Chinese, and French fare), reading and spending time with his wife and son. He is also active on the local public school council.
