SEACOR HOLDINGS, INC.

INDUSTRY: Shipping
INVESTMENT THESIS: Acquisition and Growth
ROLE: Partner and Managing Director (William E. Simon & Sons, Inc.)
INVESTMENT HIGHLIGHTS:

Mr. McGrath was charged by William E. Simon (former Secretary of the Treasury, America’s first energy czar, and one of the world’s most successful corporate acquirers in the early days of the leveraged buyout model) to build an investment arm in the shipping industry. To accomplish this, Jim brought in Charles Fabrikant as an operating partner, and after a careful targeted selection process seeking out segment industry leaders, they identified and acquired Seacor for $80 million in 1990, of which the equity component was $22 million.
Now public and after substantial organic growth and further acquisitions, Seacor is publicly-traded with a market value in excess of $2 billion.
FINANCIAL RESULTS: Equity value has grown nearly 100X
